Among the Igbo's, good fortunes are considered to be a function of one's personal Chi.
A child may be named Chioma as a prayer for favorable Chi. Chi has been interpreted as the Igbo personal life force, personal life, guardian angel, creator, companion, individual providence, portioned-out life principle.
It is also interpreted as a person's deity--identity in the spirit land which complements their human identity.
